Lansing USD 469 offers the LINCS program—Learning Independence in Natural Community Settings—designed for 18- to 21-year-old students who have met high school graduation requirements but are continuing to work on their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. Located in Lansing Intermediate School, this special education initiative focuses on:
Independent Living Skills: Teaching food planning, preparation, housekeeping, laundry, self-care, personal health, shopping, and money management.
Vocational Training: Developing job-related skills and appropriate workplace behaviors.
Community Participation: Encouraging budgeting, utilizing community services, and navigating transportation.
Social Development: Fostering self-advocacy, personal relationships, and informed decision-making.
Recreation/Leisure: Identifying and participating in community recreational activities.
The program collaborates with families and the community to help students reach their maximum potential for independence.
