Health & Wellness Tips

Lansing USD469 is proud to promote health & wellness to our students and staff. In addition to having a Health & Wellness Committee that meets quarterly, Lansing Middle School has a student Health and Wellness Advisory Committee - Kids Version in their Peer Leadership group, led by teacher and coach Jennifer Bishop. 

In addition to serving on the district Health & Wellness Committee, these students will be sharing health tips monthly:

Tip

A lot of teens are not getting enough protein. The average teen boy should be getting about 52 grams of protein per day. The average teen girl should be getting about 46 grams of protein per day. Getting enough protein can help with gaining muscle, growth and development, increased energy, etc…

 

Recipe

High protein whipped cottage cheese bowls:

 

Ingredients:

•    Cottage Cheese: Although some brands sell whipped cottage cheese in containers, I much prefer the taste of Good Culture, so I whip it myself.

•    Vanilla: Use vanilla extra or vanilla bean paste for a sweeter flavor. If using a vanilla bean, cut it in half and scrape the seeds out with a spoon.

•    Sweetener: Any kind will work–granulated sugar, honey, or maple syrup. For a sugar-free, zero-calorie option, use monk fruit

•    Fruit: I used sliced bananas and mixed berries (blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries).

•    Nuts: Add slivered almonds for a little crunch and extra protein

 

Instructions:

•    Whip Cottage Cheese: Blend cottage cheese, vanilla, and sweetener on medium-high in a blender until smooth.

•      Make the Cottage Cheese Bowls: Pour the whipped cottage cheese into 2 bowls, and top with fresh fruit and almonds.
