Lansing USD469 is proud to have had students from both Lansing High School and Lansing Intermediate School perform in an event at Kansas Speedway during a NASCAR race weekend in September.
For the second year in a row, the Lansing High School Choir, led by director Mr. Brian J. White, performed "God Bless America" in front of the crowd before the race. Senior Jordyn Kline, one of the Concert Choir's student representatives, reflected on the experience, saying, "Performing at a NASCAR race was a unique experience. I will hold it near and dear to my heart."
The performance was a showcase of the students' musical talent and a chance for the Lansing community to come together. NASCAR offered discounted tickets to Lansing USD469 staff and families, allowing many to attend and show their support.
At the same event, Lansing Intermediate School students demonstrated their commitment to community and citizenship. A group of students, accompanied by roughly thirty families, attended the race and participated in pre-race activities, including touring the infield, exploring the race cars, and walking the track. The highlight for these students was leading the crowd in the Pledge of Allegiance before the race.
"It was an honor for students and staff to represent Lansing Intermediate School by performing the Pledge of Allegiance before the race," said Principal Altieri. "We emphasize community and citizenship at LIS, and this was a great way for our students to showcase those values."
Thank you to NASCAR for their support and the opportunity for our students to perform for such a large audience!
