Marvis Hunley, Focus Room Aide

Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you have within the school district?

Answer: I started off as a SPED para at LES working with students in 1st -4th grade. I did that for several years and then i left there to come to LIS were i am currently the Focus Room Aide.

Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?

Answer: i love my job because I get to interact with the students and to help them to discover better choices, I enjoy letting them see that there is more than one way to be successful in/out of the classroom. Working for this district has given me a chance to show the growth that I have made with all of the students that i have worked with in SPED while being a paraprofessional all those years that I worked in the classroom. Now that I currently have my own room, I get to show the students what it's like to be able to face a challenging situation and still be ok .

Question:  When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?

Answer: i enjoy hanging out with my kids, friends and family, cooking, baking, and reading.

Question: What is something unusual about you that most people don't know?

Answer: I went to boarding school in London, England while my dad was stationed in Mogadishu, Somalia.

Question: Could you share a particularly heartwarming or memorable experience you've had while working with students or colleagues?

Answer: One that brings me so much joy is when I found out that I got Para Support Person of the Year and got to share it with my then 2nd graders and Wykea Taylor, the teacher that nominated me.

Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?

Answer:  I would tell them to always be kind and respectful and true to themselves.
