LHS Choir

On Tuesday, January 21, Lansing High School choir students visited 8th graders at Lansing Middle School as part of an ongoing effort to strengthen collaboration and vertical alignment between the middle and high school choir programs. The goal? To encourage retention and keep students engaged in singing as they transition to high school.

During the visit, the 8th graders had the opportunity to watch Legacy, the high school’s select choir, perform two pieces they are currently rehearsing. More than just a performance, this experience gave the middle school students a behind-the-scenes look at the rehearsal process—helping to ease any nerves about what to expect at the next level. By the end of the visit, excitement was high, and nearly every student expressed interest in continuing choir in high school.

Legacy members also shared their personal experiences, emphasizing that students can be involved in multiple activities—whether it’s sports, clubs, or other programs—while still being part of the choir. They spoke about the strong sense of community within the program, where every student has a place and a sense of belonging. That supportive, family-like atmosphere is something that connects both LMS and LHS choirs, making the program a welcoming space for all.

This visit was a powerful reminder of the impact of music education and the importance of building connections across grade levels. With so much enthusiasm from the 8th graders, the future of the Lansing choir program is looking bright!
