Sadie Webb, LHS Health and Physical Education Teacher
Question: How long have you worked in Lansing USD469?
Answer: This is my first year!
Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you have within the school district?
Answer: I teach health, physical fitness and walking, and lifetime fitness and individual sports. I was previously a personal trainer and a strength and conditioning coach.
Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?
Answer: My favorite part about my role and the work I do in this district is the connections I form with students. I started teaching because I wanted to show students that struggle feeling comfortable with physical activity that they are capable. I love it when students tell me that they found a new love for an activity in my class, feel motivated to try a sport because of my class, or that they simply enjoy being in my class. I love seeing skill cues finally click for a student. I also love seeing their expressions when they realize just how strong they are. Instilling a growth mindset in my students has definitely been my favorite part of working here!
Question: When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?
Answer: When I'm not working, I love lifting, reading, and singing. I consider the weight room my happy place! I also love relaxing with my 14-year-old chihuahua, Bella.
Question: What is something unusual about you that most people don't know?
Answer: I was in honor choir from 7th through 12th grade!
Question: Could you share a particularly heartwarming or memorable experience you've had while working with students or colleagues?
Answer: At parent teacher conferences, I had a parent tell me their student was inspired to try powerlifting because they felt comfortable with me and enjoyed my class. Seeing as showing students that they're strong and capable is my entire goal, this meeting had me tearing up!
Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?
Answer: A piece of advice I'd offer to students is that in most cases, something is better than nothing. Many students fall into an all-or-nothing mindset. They completely give up if they fail at first or fall behind. When it comes to submitting assignments, taking care of yourself, and dealing with responsibilities: something will always be better than nothing, even if it isn't 100% everyday!
