Wizard of Oz

The Lansing High School Performing Arts Department invites the community to journey down the Yellow Brick Road as they present The Wizard of Oz from November 14–16 at 7 p.m. in the LHS auditorium. Tickets are $11 for adults and $7 for students and can be purchased in advance here.

This year's production features a collaboration with students from across the district. Mrs. Leitsch's first-grade class from Lansing Elementary School is taking on the role of the Munchkins, bringing youthful energy and charm to the stage. The young performers have worked closely with the high school cast, building connections and gaining a unique theater experience. "Teaching The Wizard of Oz has been a source of immense joy for both me and my students," said Mrs. Leitsch, the first-grade teacher who led the young students.

The Musical Co-Director Mr. Brian J. White agreed with Mrs. Leitsch. "This is an experience that her students will not soon forget and has helped them develop poise and self-agency. She and her students have been a pleasure to work with and a highlight of our musical!"

Two of this year's senior leads, Carson Zimmerman (Lion) and Jonathan Duncan (Tinman), were former students of Mrs. Leitsch. In a full-circle moment, they are reprising their roles from a classroom activity they participated in as first graders, inspired by The Wizard of Oz.

"The fall musical has been a delightful and incredibly fulfilling experience," said Co-Director Musical Director Kelli Jo Swift. "I am so grateful to be able to work with such talented humans. Being able to work with our young lions, the 1st graders, to our experienced high schoolers and showcasing their talents on stage is always a testament to the hard work and dedication they put into everything they set their mind towards. We were also fortunate to be able to collaborate with our local dance studio, First City Dance Center. With so many moving parts, this production has been a constant wheel in motion and certainly possesses something for everyone of all ages to fall in love with!"

Don't miss this opportunity to support Lansing students and witness their hard work, talent, and passion for the arts. We look forward to seeing you at the show!
