Josefina Gutierrez, High School Science Teacher and Head Softball Coach

Question: How long have you worked in Lansing USD469?

Answer:  2 years

Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you have within the school district?

Answer: I work as the AP Biology, Environment Science and Enrichment Biology Teacher. I originally started working in the district student-teaching back in the fall of 2021. When I first got my full time teaching position in the fall of 2023 I was excited to continue teaching students I had previously taught, which allowed me to continue building relationships.

Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?

Answer: I enjoy being able to have a variety of classes that allows me to have students from freshman to seniors. Sometimes I am lucky enough to have students more than once in their high school career and seeing them pursue their goals and dreams is something I will not forget. With coaching I get to see the students excel outside of the classroom and show their pride for their school.

Question:  When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?

Answer: I enjoy going to sporting events with my family and friends. I like to cook and am always up to try a new recipe.

Question: What is something unusual about you that most people don't know?

Answer: I used to be a in mariachi band.

Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?

Answer: Never be afraid to be a leader and not a follower.
