Mona Hauver, High School Bookkeeper
Question: How long have you worked in Lansing USD469?
Answer: 16 years
Question: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and the role you have within the school district?
Answer: I'm a Nebraska girl who settled in Lansing 30 years ago with my husband, Rich, to raise our 5 kids. i started out in the district as a volunteer (Chris Cristiano and I made quite a team)! Then I became a substitute teacher. if you really want to appreciate teachers, become a sub!
I came to work at the high school as the bookkeeper when my youngest was a junior. When I started in this position, I was doing purchase orders and checks on a typewriter. Thankfully it was electric! From then until now, my role as bookkeeper/office manager has continued to evolve. My second year on the job I thought it would be a good idea to become the Lionette coach. Actually, I succumbed to my daughter's pleading. The youngest generally get what they want, don't they! After a few years I traded in the dance team for the swim and dive team. I have since retired from coaching, but am now proud to be the high school rep for the Lansing Educational Foundation. It is a fantastic group of professionals seeking to support our students and staff by raising money for classroom and school grants. This is only possible by the support of our community and all of you.
Question: What do you enjoy most about your role and the work you do in the school district?
Answer: Although the financial management of the high school is my primary responsibility, my role as a utility player is where I find the most job satisfaction. "Other duties", as they arise, is where the magic happens! I really enjoy making a difference (no matter how big or small) in someone's day. I truly believe my position affords me the opportunity to help in a number of different capacities. i have the great honor of working with outstanding staff across the district who deserve the best from me.
Question: When you're not working, what hobbies or activities do you enjoy?
Answer: I relish every opportunity I get to spend with family, doing any activity, because I know how fleeting the time is!
Question: What is something unusual about you that most people don't know?
Answer: My favorite sandwich is peanut butter and mayonnaise thanks to my Grandma Lighthart.
Question: Could you share a particularly heartwarming or memorable experience you've had while working with students or colleagues?
Answer: It's not just one experience, but multiple...colleagues and community members have defied the "apathetic" way of this world by paying off families' fees and lunch balances in anonymity. I am in awe of their generosity. If this has been you, God bless you!
Question: What piece of advice would you like to offer to students to help them succeed and make the most of their educational journey?
Answer: Knowledge is power! Learn as much as you can so you have the power to direct your future.
