In the Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) Culinary Program, Lansing High School graduate Emalee Litewski shines in the Baking Program. Emalee and her fellow students recently explored one of the most crucial and fascinating techniques in baking: tempering chocolate.
Mastering Chocolate: Tempering and Truffles
In the baking class, Emalee learned how to temper chocolate, which involves gently heating and cooling chocolate to ensure its fat molecules crystallize correctly. The result? A glossy, smooth finish perfect for professional-grade confections. Once they mastered tempering, students crafted their own homemade chocolate truffles, showcasing their newfound skills.
A Sweet Future with the Yellow Rose Scholarship
Emalee’s passion for baking doesn’t stop there. She was recently awarded the Yellow Rose Scholarship, which will support her continued education in the Baking Program at the KCKCC Pioneer Career Center.
Congratulations, Emalee!
