Their accomplishments are a testament to the community and excellent education fostered here in Lansing. By sharing their journey, they'll inspire current students and fellow alums while highlighting our graduates' diverse paths.
Marissa Schimke, Class of 2018
Question: What is your current job title, and where do you work?
Answer: High School teacher in Lansing USD 469
Question: What is your educational background (Colleges, CTE, trade, etc) after Lansing?
Answer: Bachelor degree in Public Relations & Advertising. Pursuing Masters degree in Education.
Question: What are some career highlights or personal achievements you would like to share?
Answer: Expanded the Lansing High School Roar/Broadcasting crew, took on new things that I never knew I could do, like creating a year-long project with all of the standards into a semester's-worth.
Question: How did your education in our school district influence your career or personal growth?
Answer: My high school teachers were the ones I looked up to the most, and they are the reason why I knew I wanted to be a teacher. All the teachers in the Lansing school district who I have had over the years are the reason why I’m here today, and they are the culture I want be a part of for a life time.
Question: Do you have any fond memories or stories from your time at our school district that you’d like to share?
Answer: Being a Lionette and being able to perform in front of the student body. Being a sports anchor for the roar and being the face of the school.
Question: What advice would you give to current students who are preparing for their future?
Answer: It is okay to not know what you want to do. The right job will be there for you when it’s time. As you can see, I wasn’t intending to be a teacher, as I had different future plans, but I know this is the right place I was meant to be.
