Lansing USD469 is proud to recognize Cheryl Sander, second-grade teacher at Lansing Elementary School, as our 2025 Elementary Teacher of the Year. Cheryl is the embodiment of dedication, creativity, and heart. Her ability to bring learning to life and her steadfast support of both students and colleagues have made her a treasured member of the Lansing community.
Cheryl’s nomination speaks volumes about her commitment to education:
“Cheryl is incredibly creative and is often in the building long after instructional hours. Whether she is dragging a fake tree from the work room into her classroom so that her students feel like they are in a forest during Camp Read-a-Lot or staying late after conferences to accommodate a parent schedule, she is committed to meeting the needs of our students and families.”
Her efforts extend well beyond the classroom. When the school’s PTA faced the possibility of dissolving due to low membership, Cheryl stepped in without hesitation.
“During the 23-24 school year our PTA membership was dwindling to the point that we were in danger of needing to dissolve our PTA. Cheryl was determined to prevent that from occurring. When no one was willing to serve on the executive PTA council, Cheryl announced she would become the K-5 PTA secretary.”
She also participates in the district’s Math Leadership Cadre and has provided professional development for staff on effective math instruction and strategies.
“She is incredibly giving of her time and energy… Cheryl is strong in her classroom management and academic instruction… and she is fun. It is a pleasure to nominate her as our teacher of the year!”
Congratulations to Cheryl Sander on this well-earned honor. Her leadership, passion, and creativity continue to make a lasting impact on Lansing Elementary and the entire district.
Mrs. Sander will be honored at the upcoming Lansing USD469 Honors Breakfast sponsored by the Lansing Educational Foundation (LEF). As part of this recognition, she will also receive an LEF grant to support her classroom and continue her incredible work with students.
