Lansing Middle School 8th-grade science students are diving into Earth’s dynamic processes in an exciting, hands-on way! In partnership with the Leavenworth County Extension Office, students are participating in a stream table demonstration to deepen their understanding of weathering, erosion, and deposition as they wrap up their Earth History unit.
This isn’t just any classroom experiment—the demonstration features a large-scale stream table set up on a flatbed trailer, providing an immersive and interactive learning experience. As water moves through the model landscape, students will observe firsthand how natural forces shape the Earth’s surface, recording their findings in their interactive science notebooks.
This engaging activity is made possible through a collaboration with Sonya Murphy, Leavenworth County 4-H agent and a parent of an LMS 8th grader. By bringing real-world applications into the classroom, students gain a deeper appreciation for Earth science concepts while connecting with local community resources.
