Lansing USD 469 is excited to announce an exceptional opportunity for a Coordinator of Special Education for the 2025-2026 school year. This key leadership position focuses on supporting our special education staff and students, ensuring high-quality services that meet the unique learning needs of students with exceptionalities.
Position Overview
As the Coordinator of Special Education, you will:
Facilitate processes that help teachers and building leaders provide effective support for students with exceptionalities.
Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations while delivering high-quality special education services.
Act as a primary contact and support for families of students receiving special education services.
Contribute to creating classroom environments conducive to learning and aligned with the maturity and interests of special education students.
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate special services and programs across buildings to maintain compliance and quality standards.
Assist with staff evaluations, professional growth plans, and staffing projections based on student caseload demographics.
Facilitate IEP team meetings and provide leadership in resolving challenges to achieve consensus.
Monitor the fidelity of MTSS interventions in early childhood classrooms and K-12 special education settings.
Provide technical assistance, problem-solving, and compliance assurance for special education services.
Staff Development
Deliver leadership and professional development for general and special education staff and administrators on IDEA policies and procedures.
Plan and implement staff development activities in collaboration with administrators to ensure all staff are equipped to meet their responsibilities effectively.
Provide coaching, mentoring, and instructional support for teachers and paraeducators.
Program Evaluation
Continuously monitor and evaluate special education services for compliance with federal and state regulations, judicial interpretations, and local district improvement plans.
Collaborate with the administrative team to develop recommendations for policy or procedural changes to ensure compliance and quality.
Qualifications
Minimum of seven years of experience working with students with exceptionalities (teaching, related service provision, or school administration preferred).
Master’s degree.
Valid Kansas administrative and special education licenses issued by the Kansas State Board of Education.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with diverse audiences.
Effective time management and organizational skills to meet district outcomes.
Proficiency in district-identified hardware, software, and technology tools.
Ability to adapt to the compressed schedules typical of the school year and school day.
