Inclement Weather Reminders

After the recent historic snowfall earlier this week, Lansing USD469 is thrilled to welcome students back to school today for the start of the second semester!

While our teams have worked diligently to ensure buildings are ready for students, and city and county crews have been working around the clock to clear streets and roads, we know that conditions in some areas are still far from ideal. With safety as our top priority, here are a few reminders to help ensure a smooth and safe return to school:

Bus Transportation:

  • Our buses will be running, but delays are likely as drivers carefully navigate snowy routes.

  • Families are encouraged to wait with children at bus stops, dress them warmly, and be patient, as buses may be running behind schedule.

  • If you are able to transport your child to school yourself over the next few days, we encourage you to do so.

Student Drivers:

We urge all student drivers to exercise extra caution while traveling to school. Roads may still be slick, and visibility could be limited in some areas due to snowbanks. Please leave plenty of time to get to school safely and drive slowly, especially near bus stops and school zones.

Weather Outlook and Communication:

Additional snowfall is possible this evening, which may further impact roads and travel conditions. We encourage families to stay informed by downloading our district’s mobile app, checking our website and social media pages, and monitoring your Skyward email. In the event of another cancellation or delay, these platforms will be your best sources for up-to-date information.

Attendance Considerations:

We understand that every family’s situation is unique, and you may feel uncomfortable sending your child to school due to local road conditions. Please know that parents always have the option to excuse an absence if weather or road safety is a concern. Simply follow the usual process by notifying your child’s school office.

Thank you for your continued understanding and partnership as we navigate these wintry challenges. While safety remains our top priority, we are excited to have students back in school.
