Question: How did your education in our school district influence your career or personal growth?
Answer: Lansing gave me a solid foundation of essential skills to pursue higher education and later find my passion in business. I learned critical thinking as the percussion section leader in band, leadership as class vice president in charge of many school activities, and empathy by founding the Late Night for Leukemia event in 2005. I believe that quality public schools are a foundational aspect of a high functioning society. Lansing is above average and my passion is to keep it that way as the newly elected President of the Lansing Educational Foundation. There are so many alumni that look back fondly on their time here in Lansing. I encourage them to donate to the foundation with their time, treasure, or talent so that the district can continue offering the next generation of students the opportunities in life that we had.
Question: Do you have any fond memories or stories from your time at our school district that you’d like to share?
Answer: Fall was always an exciting time for me in Lansing. Playing in the marching band, going to debate tournaments, putting on kids trick or treat events at the high school, and taking new classes. These wonderful memories can stick with you decades later. I hope that students in the moment can take it all in right now and it enjoy life.
Question: What advice would you give to current students who are preparing for their future?
Answer: Be curious. So many of the skills I learned were discovered in unlikely places like band, playing on the golf team, and participating in debate. Life is wide open for opportunity. Seek it everywhere you look.
