Gifted Services
Gifted Education is a part of Special Education in Kansas and follows Special Education processes and procedures. A student must be identified through these procedures to be eligible to participate in the program. Once a student is identified as having the characteristics of giftedness and displays unique needs that can't be met in the regular education classroom, an Individualized Education Program (IEP) is written. The IEP guides instruction appropriate for the student’s needs and aspirations within the gifted education and general education programs. There are three gifted facilitators, Patti Boe-Cackler (grades K - 5), Josh Yoakam (grades 6 - 8), and Julie Hinckley (grades 9 - 12 ).
If your student is already identified as gifted and you have questions about his or her services or progress, contact the gifted education facilitator at your child's school.
